Parent/Spectator Expectations
Our Commitment
Benet Redwings Hockey is committed to providing a positive, competitive, and respectful environment for our players, coaches, families, and spectators.
Parents and spectators play an important role in representing our program. We expect everyone attending Benet Hockey events to demonstrate sportsmanship, respect, and support for all student-athletes.
Our goal is simple: Support the players, respect the game, and represent Benet Hockey with pride.
Sportsmanship & Respect
All parents and spectators are expected to:
- Show respect toward players, coaches, officials, opposing teams, and other spectators.
- Encourage and support all Benet players, not just their own.
- Cheer positively and avoid negative comments toward either team.
- Refrain from arguing with officials or questioning calls from the stands.
- Avoid profanity, threatening language, harassment, or inappropriate behavior.
- Demonstrate good sportsmanship regardless of the game's outcome.
Respect for Coaches & Team Decisions
Our coaching staff is responsible for player development, team strategy, line combinations, and playing time.
Parents and spectators are expected to:
- Respect coaching decisions and team rules.
- Avoid coaching players from the stands or behind the bench.
- Refrain from confronting coaches before, during, or immediately after games.
- Address concerns privately and respectfully through appropriate communication channels.
- Allow players to communicate directly with coaches whenever appropriate.
Playing time, line assignments, and team strategy are coaching decisions and are not guaranteed.
Communication & The 24-Hour Rule
We recognize that questions and concerns may arise throughout the season.
To encourage productive communication, Benet Hockey expects parents to observe a 24-hour cooling-off period following games before raising concerns involving coaching decisions or player participation.
Concerns should first be addressed with the appropriate coach at a mutually agreed-upon time.
Serious matters involving player safety, abuse, harassment, or misconduct should be reported immediately and are not subject to the 24-hour rule.
Game Day & Facility Expectations
Parents and spectators are expected to:
- Follow all rink and facility rules.
- Respect locker rooms, team areas, and restricted spaces.
- Remain outside player benches, locker rooms, and officials' areas unless authorized.
- Avoid interfering with games, practices, or team activities.
- Respect facility staff and opposing teams' families.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
Social Media & Online Conduct
Parents and spectators are expected to represent Benet Hockey respectfully online.
Unacceptable conduct includes:
- Publicly attacking or harassing players, coaches, officials, or families.
- Posting threatening, discriminatory, or inappropriate comments.
- Sharing confidential team or player information without permission.
- Using social media to create unnecessary conflict within the program.
Concerns should be addressed through appropriate club channels rather than public online discussions.
Violations & Disciplinary Action
Benet Hockey reserves the right to address parent and spectator behavior that violates these expectations.
All formal disciplinary matters will be automatically referred to the Benet Hockey Rules and Ethics Committee.
Depending on the severity of the incident, consequences may include:
- Verbal or written warning.
- Meeting with club leadership.
- Removal from a game or team event.
- Temporary restriction from attending games or practices.
- Suspension of spectator privileges.
- Additional action consistent with club policies and applicable governing rules.
Coaches, officials, and facility personnel may take immediate action when necessary to maintain safety and order. Formal club disciplinary matters will be reviewed by the Rules and Ethics Committee.
Appeals Process
Parents and spectators subject to formal club disciplinary action may submit a written appeal to the Benet Hockey Board of Directors within three calendar days of receiving the decision.
An impartial appeals panel appointed by the Board will review the matter and may uphold, modify, or reverse the decision.
The appeals panel's decision is final within the club's internal process, subject to any applicable governing rules.
Parent & Spectator Acknowledgment
By attending Benet Hockey games, practices, and events, parents and spectators are expected to follow these standards and support a positive environment for all participants.
We ask every family to remember that high school hockey is about more than wins and losses. It is about developing character, teamwork, discipline, and lifelong memories.
Cheer for the team. Respect the officials. Support the coaches. Let the players play.
Once a Redwing, Always a Redwing.
